Playful Polka Dots for Weddings
Polka dots: whimsical, playful, cheerful – what’s not to love? The chipper little dots would be a great addition to a wedding, whether they are used sparingly as a surprise detail or as the main theme. Get inspired by these ideas for using polka dots in your wedding.
The wedding invitations are the perfect place to introduce the polka dots. They would certainly liven up your stationery when used as the envelope liners. If you want to make more of a statement, look for invitations with letterpress dots decorating the stationery. It will give your invites a festive, slightly retro, flavor. Keep in mind that the color palette you choose for your dots will have a big impact on the image they convey. Navy or Kelly green with white dots are classic, pink dots are girly, yellow dots on gray are modern, and multicolored dots on white are just plain fun.
Definitely plan to introduce some polka dots into your bridesmaids’ attire. Knee length dresses with dots would be great fun for an informal daytime wedding outside. If you prefer solid dresses, you could accent them with a dotted sash. For just a hint of dots, tie up the bouquets with wide polka dot ribbons with long tails. They would look terrific with bouquets made of very round blossoms like mums, craspedia, or cabbage roses. You could even introduce the polka dot motif in the bridesmaid jewelry in a subtle way. The round flat discs of coin pearl bridesmaid jewelry will echo the dots on the dresses or flowers. The effect will be delightful.
The reception table linens are an obvious place to add some polka dots to your wedding. Dotted tablecloths can be toned down with solid color napkins or made more whimsical with striped napkins. If choosing a solid napkin, a contrasting color would be more chic than one that is too matchy-matchy with the tablecloth colors. For instance, if your tablecloths are blue and white, add yellow or red napkins for a pop of color. Or you could go in a completely different direction and use solid table linens trimmed with rows of pom pom trim to create a dotted effect. It would definitely be unique.
Finally, a polka dotted wedding cake would be simply wonderful. Flat fondant circles look fantastic decorating a cake with a contrasting base frosting. Choose from dots that are all the same size or mix it up with small, medium, and large dots. A fanciful frosting bow would make a terrific cake topper for this perky cake design. Another idea is to wrap grosgrain ribbon around each tier of the cake. Top it with a small cluster of sugar flowers that match your bouquet. It will be a fantastic showpiece for your cheery polka dot wedding.

World’s Most Expensive Celebrity Engagement Rings
While not technically part of the wedding, the bride’s engagement ring is nonetheless an important part of her bridal ensemble. A wedding dress will only be worn once, after all, but the ring will stay with her all her life. It’s a big investment on the part of the groom, financially and emotionally. After all, one needs to work up a special kind of courage when it comes to asking his girl to marry him. Here’s a look at some of the most expensive celebrity engagement rings in the world, courtesy of leading online diamond retailer Brilliance.com:
Kim Kardashian’s marriage may already be over, but we can’t forget the bling that ultimately brought the reality stay to the altar. The 20.5 carat stunner cost NBA baller Kris Humphries a whopping $2 million, or half the price of Kim’s own Beverly Hills pad.
Yet another short-lived engagement was that of Paris Hilton and erstwhile boyfriend, Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis. The ring was estimated at $4.7 million for 24 carats of pure bling. The engagement lasted five months.
Now for a look at something a little longer-lasting: Ken Todd and Lisa Vanderpump of hit American reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have been married for nine years. Recently, she was spotted with a 20 carat rock – a present from her husband, she claims, when they became rich. Isn’t that lovely?
Melania Trump married New York-based real estate tycoon Donald Trump in January 2005. Her engagement ring reportedly weighs in at 14-16 carats and The Donald a miserly $1.5 million.
Rapper Jay-Z is also known as a songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur. He can add “father” to that list – his daughter Blue Ivy was born just last month to him and sexy mama Beyoncé last January. With a net worth of 940 million, it came as no surprise when he dropped $5 million on the 18-carat engagement ring he asked her to marry him with.
